1.
Blessed are you, oh Lord, the God of Israel. You have come to us and set us free, you have raised up for us a mighty savior born of the house of David. You promised of old through your holy prophets to save us from our enemies, from the hands of all who hate us, to show mercy on us and to remember your covenant. REFRAIN In the tender mercy of our God the dawn from on high shall break upon us to give light to those who dwell in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace, to guide our feet into the way of peace. This was the oath you swore to Abraham to set us free from our enemies, free to worship you without fear holy and righteous all the days of our lives. And you, child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High, you will go before the Lord to prepare the way, to give God's people knowledge of salvation by the forgiveness of their sins.
2.
REFRAIN: My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my soul rejoices in God my savior. For you, Oh Lord, have looked with favor on your servant. From this day, all generations shall call me blessed. You, the Almighty have done great things for me and holy is your name. You have mercy on those who fear you from generation to generation. (refrain) You have shown strength with your arm, scattered the proud, casting down the mighty from their thrones and lifting up the lowly; you fill the hungry with good things and sent the rich away empty. You have come to the aid of Israel to remember your promise of mercy, the promise you made to Abraham from generation to generation. (refrain)
3.
REFRAIN: Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And why has this happened to me that the mother of my Lord comes to me? For as soon as I heard the sound of your greeting, the child in me leaped for joy. And blessed is she who believed that the word of the Lord would be fulfilled.
4.
REFRAIN: Guide us waking, oh Lord and guard us sleeping, that awake we may watch with Christ; Guide us waking, oh Lord and guard us sleeping, that asleep we may rest in his peace. VERSE Now oh Lord, you set your servant go in peace; your word has been fulfilled. My own eyes have seen the salvation which you have prepared in the sight of every people, a light to reveal you to the nations in the glory of your people Israel. (refrain)

about

These are Christmas songs.

The first part of the Gospel of Luke contains a number of poetic sections around the birth of Jesus. These sections have been sung as a liturgical part of the Advent season for a thousand years or so.

We have created some new settings for these songs, done in our style, to accompany daily offices. The Canticle of Zechariah would be done in the morning (Lauds), Mary would be evening (Vespers), and Simeon at close of day (Compline). Elizabeth would fall somewhere in the middle (there isn't a cool Latin word for Elizabeth's canticle).
